Message From Our Director
North Carolina Operation Lifesaver is celebrating our 30th anniversary this year. Helping to save lives in our state since 1978, our first state coordinator was Col. Charles Speed of the NC State Highway Patrol.
After Col Speed retired from the position, Mrs. Jane H. Mosley became coordinator until her death in 1999. Both Speed and Mosley lead NCOL to become one of the premier non-profit public education entities
in the state.
As current Executive Director, I am very proud to say we have grown, and that we now have approximately 160 volunteers crossing the state with programs reaching all age groups and professions.
We are very proud of the work our volunteers do within their communities and encourage you to join our efforts by becoming a volunteer and a nationally certified presenter.
During this year we are making a concerted effort to travel to each and every corner of the state, working with the trucking industry, businesses, railroads, communities, and schools to widen the range of
knowledge regarding safety around railroads and trains.
As our anniversary year begins we want to encourage every citizen to be more aware of the dangers present when a motor vehicle and train meet at a crossing. So please remember the basic rules:
Trains move quietly and quickly. Always be prepared to stop at the crossings. Any time is train time. If its a tie at the crossing, you lose.
Sincerely,
Vivian Speight-Bridges
